Investment strategy
The fund provides private loans to, and can take equity stakes in, unlisted projects and enterprises that accelerate the energy transition, focusing primarily on the Netherlands with a smaller allocation to emerging markets. Financed themes include solar and wind generation, energy storage, charging infrastructure, heat-cold storage, circular production, sustainable mobility and energy-efficient buildings.

The net return since inception in November 1995 is 1.97% per year; over ten years it is -0.08% per year and over five years -0.31% per year, with 2.76% per year over three years and 0.63% year-to-date, all per 31 August 2026. Returns achieved before the June 2020 restructuring as a subfund of ASN Beleggingsfondsen AIF N.V. were realised under circumstances that no longer apply. Triodos Groenfonds is the Netherlands’ original green investment fund (launched June 1998, daily tradable on Euronext Amsterdam): €523.7 million lent to around 250–300 Dutch projects in renewable energy, organic farming, nature restoration, sustainable housing and, since 2025, circular economy, batteries and heat networks.
